Movie buffs will rejoice hearing this news—a new Wes Anderson movie is coming your way! It was just over a year ago that the American auteur released The French Dispatch, and he's coming back with another masterpiece titled Asteroid City, slated to release in June 2023.
Wes Anderson's Asteroid City
Asteroid City marks another collaboration between Wes Anderson and Focus Features since his 2012 coming of age film, Moonrise Kingdom. Asteroid City will be Anderson's eleventh feature film that is also produced by his longtime collaborators Steven Rales, founder of production company Indian Paintbrush, and Jeremy Dawson. Composer Alexandre Desplat is also joining Anderson in Asteroid City to score the film.
Just like The French Dispatch, Anderson's next film will shy away from the contemporary world as it is set in a fictional desert town in 1955. The film description rings like this; It tells of a fictional American desert town in 1955 and its Junior Stargazer convention, the film brings together students and parents from across the country for scholarly competition, rest and recreation, comedy, drama, romance, and more.
What is a Wes Anderson movie without a star-sudded cast. This is what makes it super exciting; Asteroid City will feature a cast that is larger than most other Anderson films that are ensemble in nature. Margot Robbie, Maya Hawke, Steve Carrell, lifetime icon Tom Hanks alongside his spouse, Rita Wilson are set to make their respective debuts in the Wes Anderson Universe. Longtime Anderson collaborators such as Tilda Swinton, Ed Norton, and Adrien Brody will also show up in the film. The French Dispatch returning actors are Willem Dafoe, Jeffrey Wright, Fisher Stevens, and Jason Schwartzman.
As if it's not festive enough, Scarlett Johansson and Bryan Cranston are also set to make their live-action debuts in the candy-colored universe of Wes Anderson's film after both voicing characters in Isle of Dogs.
It's safe to say that Asteroid City has secured a position as a potential box-office smash in Summer 2023. Let's wait and see!
