Movies have the power to convey; not only art but also a valuable message to their audience. There are tons of them that showcase women empowerment. So, here is a compilation of worth-to-watch movies about and starred by brilliant women in the film industry that radiates intelligence that will entice you, sophistication that surely will enchant you, and of course, with a storyline that will move you!

20th Century Women
Dare I say, watching this movie is equivalent to being wrapped up in a warm blanket. It resides on the story of a single mother who juggles between dealing with her son's adolescence period and coping with the current environment surrounding her life. The relatable characters and delightful storytelling makes this movie so lovable. This movie is an ode to mothers and women in general; 20th Century Women is one heck of a hidden gem!

Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)
Even though she's heartbroken, she's still kicking ass! DC's sweetheart Harley Quinn is accompanied by Huntress, Black Canary, and police detective Renee Montoya in saving a little girl from a group of gangsters. The vibrant kaleidoscope of colors will freshen you up, and seeing the fantabulous woman squad do wicked things!

Enola Holmes
The youngest member of the infamous Holmes family, Enola Holmes outsmarts everyone when she heads off on a quest to find her suddenly-missing mother. The interactive dialogues between Enola and the audience surely deliver their appeal. Unfolding the mystery plot pleasantly, Enola Holmes also screams woman emancipation!

Erin Brokovich
I have to put a biography on the list, and I believe Erin Brokovich fits the deal. This movie follows the story of a twice-divorced mother of three, Erin Brokovich who fought against the energy corporation, Pacific Gas and Electric Company, in exposing their mistake regarding a groundwater contamination incident. Trust me, you don't want to miss seeing Erin's up-and-downs fight against corporate injustice, especially when portrayed by the wonderful; Julia Roberts!

Hidden Figures
They say intelligence is the new sexy, and Hidden Figures is all that! It is an untold story about three brilliant African-American women working at NASA who were the brains of the most impactful operation in history, the launch of former astronaut John Glenn to orbit the earth in 1962. Women, math, space, and red lipstick, what else would you ask for?

Lady Bird
Struggles, burdens, and the dilemma between external expectations and internal desires will be more apparent than ever when we step into the age of 17. It's accurately enacted in Lady Bird, which tells a story of a high school student who has a dream that goes against her loving and strong-willed mother. Lady Bird is an exciting, engaging, coming out of age movie that will leave you crying as we follow Christine's story in navigating her adolescence.

Legally Blonde
My go-to chick flick! Aside from its witty and entertaining plot, I think of Elle Woods as an icon. She got the brain, the look, the confidence, and her outgoing trait that's just irresistible. She went into the prestigious Harvard Law School to prove her worth to a boy but ended up crushing the dumb blonde stereotype, that's my girl!

Marie Antoinette
Marie Antoinette narrates the story of the last Queen of France--commencing from her romance with Louis XVI at the age of 15, down to her reign as the queen and finally culminates on the historical downfall of the Versailles. It's a compelling biopic with rumor, scandal, fame, revolution, and also, the lovely Kirsten Dunst.

Ocean's 8
A heist-comedy is hard not to love, and to our luck, Ocean's 8 unites talented stars like Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Rihanna, and more! It's the only Ocean's franchise that consists of an all-woman crew to execute the greatest heist, so buckle up for a lively adventure ruled by incredible women!

Yuni
Take a glimpse of what it is like to live as a young girl in Indonesia through Yuni. Set in a rural area of Indonesia, Yuni shines a light on social issues such as the patriarchal culture, gender constraints, along with traditional dogmas which are very tangible in Indonesia. Easily, Yuni succeeds in delivering a powerful, thought-provoking, coming out of age masterpiece.

I can go on and on, but unfortunately, that's it for now. Grab a snack, enjoy your movie time!
