Oscar, ajang penghargaan paling bergengsi di industri perfilman sebentar lagi tiba! Meskipun masih berada di tengah keresahan wabah COVID-19, The Academy Awards (atau ramah disebut dengan Oscar) akan kembali diselebrasikan pada 22 Maret mendatang. Pada hari Selasa (8/2), Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences mengeluarkan daftar nominasi ajang penghargaan Oscar, yang pembacaannya dipandu oleh Leslie Jordan dan Tracee Ellis Ross.

The Power of the Dog karya sutradara Jane Campion mendominasi daftar nominasi dengan total 11 nominasi, diikuti dengan Belfast, West Side Story, dan Dune. Drive My Car, sebuah film dibesut oleh sutradara asal Jepang, Ryusuke Hamaguchi, berhasil raih total 4 nominasi, menyeimbangi Don't Look Up yang juga mendapatkan 4 nominasi.
Angkat cerita tentang keluarga tunarungu, CODA memperoleh 3 nominasi. Salah satunya kategori 'Best Supporting Actor' yang dinominasikan kepada Troy Kotsur, membuatnya menjadi aktor penyandang tunarungu pertama yang berhasil meraih nominasi Oscar.

Meskipun menuai banyak pujian di House of Gucci, Lady Gaga tidak terdaftar dalam urutan nominasi sekalipun namanya sudah diprediksi akan masuk ke dalam daftar nominasi. Pada satu sisi lain, Kristen Stewart mendapatkan nominasi Oscar pertamanya dibawah kategori 'Best Actress' atas perannya dalam film Spencer.
Lantaran memecahkan rekor film box office terlaris di urutan ke-8 sepanjang masa, Spider-Man: No Way Home berhasil mendapatkan nominasi 'Best Visual Effect'. Film animasi asal Denmark, Flee, raih nominasi 'Best Animated Feature Film', bersaing dengan The Mitchells vs. The Machines, dan tiga karya Disney yaitu Raya and The Last Dragon, Luca, dan Encanto.
